Established to create a permanent endowment that will meet the changing needs and interests of the people of McHenry County.

What makes a community work?

The McHenry County Community Foundation in partnership with the Grand Victoria Foundation launched the CommunityWORKS initiative to improve the quality of life for people in our community by focusing on issues that directly impact everyday life: child care, land use and protection, and workforce development.

Target Areas

Early Childhood Care and Education

  • Increasing access to quality, affordable childcare and early childhood education options for working families
  • Expanding availability of quality child care facilities
  • Strengthening childcare education programs and management capacities

Land Use and Protection

  • Protection and restoration of natural lands and waterways
  • Implementation of regional growth management and land use strategies that promote economic vitality and environmental health
  • Expansion/connection of preserved natural lands
  • Education of the public in above issues

Workforce Development

  • Job retention and career advancement
  • Job creation, including entrepreneurial efforts
  • Access/transportation options to jobs

Your gift to the CommunityWORKS endowment will be matched by the Grand Victoria Foundation. This is a rare opportunity for our community - with each local dollar our residents raise for this permanent endowment, Grand Victoria Foundation will give our community a dollar in return - it's that simple!

The Grand Victoria Foundation is working with 17 community foundations throughout the state of Illinois - View the CommunityWORKS website.
