2008 Grant Recipients
In response to an increase in need, an after school on-site mentoring program will continue in the new school year for students at Harvard Junior High School allowing 25 more children to benefit from extra attention and help with their studies
Following a five-year partnership with the Grand Victoria Foundations, the Community
Foundation is now prepared to grant dollars to community partners in response to years of community outreach surrounding important issues identified within our County in the areas of Child Care, Land Use & Protection, and Workforce Development.
Holiday food baskets for Thanksgiving and Easter will be filled for upwards of 50 families through cooperative efforts between the Northern Illinois Food Bank and the Crystal Lake Food Pantry.
The Volunteer Friends Program through Faith in Action will provide opportunities for area seniors to recruit their own drivers for transportation to appointments within the County.
In these days of strict budget cuts at the State level, many Illinois non-profits have been forced to cut services and even let go of talented staff. One positive response to the situation, due to an involved, knowledgeable supporter is a grant for operational use made possible through the Judith Porter Fund
A growing population leads to growing healthcare needs – and the Family Health Partnership Clinic is here to answer! This $2500 grant supports the purchase of software to computerize increasing scheduling functions. Additionally, as an Endowment Fund holder, the Clinic is receiving $15,000 through the Family Health Partnership Clinic Fund, created with the Community Foundation by an anonymous donor in support of the good service provided to McHenry County through the work of the Clinic.
A comprehensive educational interfaith studies program will provide participants with exposure to diverse faith traditions within McHenry County through reading assignments, lectures, on-site visits, and opportunities for interaction with those of various faiths in hopes of providing a deeper awareness of diverse religious traditions.
With this grant for expansion, four additional McHenry County communities will soon benefit from eight new sites offering involvement in this program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running.
The proven Latina Adult Volunteer Advancement Program will now be brought to four new elementary schools in three different McHenry County communities encouraging Latino involvement in the exciting program of the Girl Scouts.
This grant provides for replacement of specialized tools and office equipment necessary for workers to provide the good services of Habitat for Humanity.
This grant, in support of two scholarships for this dynamic program that offers educational opportunities to professionals, engaging participants in community leadership, will provide potential to those who may not otherwise be able to partake.
This unique therapeutic program that unites the strength of a gifted horse with the fragility of a special needs child is expanding its client base to individuals with emotional and social challenges, providing new potential partnerships with Turning Point, Youth Service Bureau, and Rebekah’s House.
A newly created community-based immigration service program has begun at the Latino Coalition and this grant provides much needed technical support.
This program provides numerous opportunities in music education for the youth of McHenry County.
Over 7,000 McHenry County youth will be served with the new Character Counts curriculum to be purchased and applied to YSB programs throughout the County, including school based prevention programs, home based therapeutic mentoring and the AmeriCorps program.

Project Fresh Start provides support to Veterans working to return to the labor force.
Necessary to this support is the need for transportation, and while NASA accepts donated vehicles which trained Vets repair for safe use, we all know running a car requires more than a good engine.
What student doesn’t enjoy a music assembly? That’s just what elementary and middle school children will have when the Academy brings their children’s choir to schools, uniting to perform with high school choirs and a professional orchestra.
The special services offered in the Day Center and Transitional Center of PADS is soon to benefit from additional computer equipment, allowing staff to increase case worker capabilities.
